Avago today announced the launch of its new high-density SFP+, QSFP+ and CXP solutions for the high-performance computing (HPC, High Performance CompuTIng) and data center applications. These active cables use unique technology to achieve 10G link cost less than active copper cables, combining performance improvements, lighter weight and easier cable management for high data throughput interconnect applications up to 100 meters.
Avago's extensive portfolio of AOC active cables includes 10GbE SFP+, 40GbE QSFP+ and 150G CXP active fiber optic cables. In addition to providing the advantages of fiber optics, it also offers an easy alternative to copper cables. AOC uses cable technology that can receive the same electrical signals as traditional copper cables. Cables with optical signal conversion capability at the end of the connector are used at both ends of the connector to improve the connection speed and chain of the cable while maintaining compatibility with the original standard electrical interface. Road distance.
Sharon Hall, Product Line Manager, Avago Fiber Products Division, said: "These new AOC active fiber optic cable products enhance our leadership in high-bandwidth pluggable optical technology. We anticipate this type of technology through our proven design technology and expertise. Products can be extended to a broader and more diverse application market that previously only used copper cables."
Driven by higher bandwidth and more application demands in the cloud computing environment, AOC Active Optical Cable is the latest solution for data center, server farm, network switch, telecom switching center and many other high-performance embedded applications requiring high-speed data transmission. Solution, system applications include data aggregation, backplane communication, unique protocol data transmission, and other high-density and high-bandwidth applications.
According to market research firm LightCounTIng, the AOC active optical cable market is expected to reach nearly $100 million in 2015. Brad Smith, senior vice president and data center interconnect application industry analyst at LightCounting, said: "The main application market will continue to use the HPC and supercomputing markets of the InfiniBand protocol. In the past few years, the application of AOC active optical cable in the data center is to connect Ethernet. The switch layer of the network protocol has also begun to grow as a interconnect application for DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplex) and routers in telecommunications applications."
The new SFP+ and QSFP+ AOC active cables are the first to use Avago's new AtlasTM 75X embedded optical engine. This optical technology delivers significantly higher performance and connection distances than the cost of copper cables. The CXP Active Optical Cable uses the proven AtlasTM 77X MicroPODTM optical engine to provide complete performance, connection distance and features including Digital Monitoring Interface (DMI) in discrete transceiver solutions at lower cost.
