The world's leading supplier of a full set of interconnect products Molex Incorporated announced the availability of low-power 56Gbps 14 QSFP + active optical cable data rates (Active Optical Cable, AOC) product, bringing the highest 56 Gbps aggregate data rate of up to 4 km in distance A reliable solution with lower cost. Each QSFP+ 56Gbps AOC integrated cable requires less than 1W of power and is interfaced to the system via a standard Multiple Source Agreement Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable (QSFP) connector. The flexibility of traditional optical modules.

Molex Product Manager Brent Hatfield said: "Our QSFP+ 56Gbps AOC solution provides a transmission range of up to 4 kilometers, but consumes less than 1W of power. As data centers and scalable HPC clusters become larger and more Decentralized, Molex 's single-mode solution offers customers a lower-cost option to connect at a medium distance using only a fraction of the cost of long-haul cable . This solution also provides customers with an accelerated upgrade. A clear path without the need to continually upgrade the wiring structure, and the standard QSFP+ port is a spot economy interconnect that meets these needs."

Molex 14 Data Rate (FDR) AOC cable has four bidirectional fiber data links at each end, operating at 1.0 to 14.0 Gbps data rates and is compatible with InfiniBand* FDR, 10Gb Ethernet, SAS 2.0 and 3.0 (6 and 12) Multiple protocols including Gbps) and Fibre Channel (8 and 10 Gbps). The lower 10e-18 bit error rate (BER) provides higher data reliability and robust links than standard transceivers with 10e-15 error rates. The cable is also available in a low-loss pigtail model that allows customers to install single-mode fiber and connect to a pigtail cable to avoid costly cable upgrades as bandwidth increases.

Molex's 56Gbps AOC cable is designed for distances up to 4 kilometers (2.49 miles) for optimum design flexibility. In data center and campus environments, single-mode fiber technology provides longer transmission distances than copper and multimode fiber solutions, and firmware can be updated in the field via an I2C bus, allowing cables to be updated in the host system.
